Government's approach to Aboriginal affairs is guided by the (VAAF). The framework is grounded in the voices, perspectives and priorities of the Victorian Aboriginal community and renews the Victorian Government's commitment to self-determination.
We're holding government to account
The approach of the new VAAF, and annual reporting, is to end narratives of blame that hold Aboriginal communities responsible for their own experiences of disadvantage. Instead we're hold government accountable for undertaking structural change to deliver better outcomes.
If Victoria's structures and systems are transformed so that they are safe, culturally-relevant and accessible, Aboriginal Victorians will be better supported to be healthy, safe, resilient, thriving and culturally confident.
It also recognises that to achieve positive change, Aboriginal Victorians must be at the centre of decision-making.
